Looking for an interesting, rewarding volunteering experience?

More than 230 individuals volunteer over 30,000 hours of service a year to Hospital for Special Surgery in these and other exciting and challenging roles:

  • Surgical Liaison Program: Ensures smooth communication and delivery of services among the holding area and medical staff, patients, and the family atrium.

  • Manage Your Care/VOICES Program: Educates and advocates for patients' chronic care issues and patient entitlements, and assists patients with related tasks, such as applying for Medicaid.

  • Physical and Occupational Therapy: Observes therapists, assists with maintenance of equipment,  and supports the rehabilitation department in some administrative matters.

  • Patients' Library: Delivers library books and magazines to our in-patients, and assists with book sales and maintaining the library collection.

  • Ambassador's Program: Greets patients and provides escort and directions to hospital visitors.

  • Pediatric Recreation: Oversees play programs for pediatric patients in a range of clinics.

  • Office Management Assistance in a variety of areas including: Medical Records, Cardio-Pulmonary, Nursing Administration, Rheumatology, and more.

Volunteers are required to donate at least 100 total hours of their time to the hospital.
